SOLD OUT! – McFarlane-Portacio Spawn comics

“SPAWN #185’s all-new direction completely sells out!”

Press Release

30 October 2008 (Berkeley, CA) – The comic book event of the season started off with a bang as SPAWN’s new direction, courtesy of Image Founders Todd McFarlane & Whilce Portacio, resulted in an immediate distribution-level sell-out!

“Obviously it’s good news to have the initial issue sell out so quickly, but now the bigger task is to continue that momentum in the issues going forward,” Spawn creator Todd McFarlane said. “As a reminder, the first few issues will be a lot of setup before we kick this into high gear.  Each issue isn’t meant to be its own stand-alone book.”

Start: Oct 28, ’08
End: Nov 14, ’08
Location: 4th level, Shangri-la Plaza Mall

Children’s illustrators group Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan’s (Ang I.N.K) 17th annual exhibition titled “Tsubibo” runs until Nov. 14 at the 4th level Shangri-la Plaza Mall, Mandaluyong City.

“Tsubibo,” explores one of the most popular attractions for children and children at heart: the carnival, in a showcase of over 30 works from Ang I.N.K. members using digital art, paper sculpture, drawing, painting and mixed media.

Ang I.N.K. treats its audience to the sights and sounds of the carnival as “Tsubibo” presents the carnival’s wild and wacky cast of characters, and delves into the thrills and chills of rides, arcade games, and other sideshow attractions.

Founded in 1991, Ang I.N.K.’s roster includes full-time freelance illustrators, graphic designers, painters, writer-illustrators, visual arts teachers and students, and artists working in publishing companies, design-related firms and advertising agencies. Apart from children’s books, Ang I.N.K. members or “INKies” continue to produce workbooks, textbooks, murals, animated features, product designs and merchandising, both individually and as a group. Several INKies are recipients of local and international awards and continue to make names for themselves both here and abroad.

Presented by Adarna House, OMF Literature, Summit Media, and Oishi, “Tsubibo” moves to the UP College of Fine Arts Art Bazaar on November 15 for a 1-day exhibition.

Arnold Arre’s Martial Law Babies graphic novel : teaser poster 3 and official website

Written by Azrael Coladilla on 4:37 PM Wednesday, October 29, 2008

I got this teaser poster again from Arnold Arre, and the book is near to hit our comic book shops and book stores. Check out also the official website http://martiallawbabies.com/

the website features a lot of goodies, from production notes, art samples and photos for the new graphic novel Martial Law Babies. Also I just found out that these teaser posters is like a countdown by year, maybe the next teaser poster is a year for 2000.

Where were you when QUAD is our Megamall and people wearing Docs and not Crocs?

About Martial Law Babies graphic novel

Award-winning graphic novelist Arnold Arre takes us on a nostalgic trip through some of the Philippines’ most colorful and compelling eras – from the rigidness of pre-EDSA Manila to the dizzying, commercially-intoxicated world of the new millenium.

Allan and his friends are Martial Law Babies: born during the Marcos regime, raised by TV, and shaped by 80s music. Their ambitions may be dampened by third world realities and malcontention but they also proudly belong to a generation of dreamers who fight for their voices to be heard. They are among the so-called “Bagong Lipunan” children, trying their best to live up to their name. But over the years, as Allan watches his friends leave one by one and feels his sense of idealism wane, he starts to wonder where they are all headed.

About the author

Arnold Arre has won National Book Awards for The Mythology Class and Trip to Tagaytay. He is currently working on several other novels, all of which touch on various aspects of Filipino life. Martial Law Babies is his fourth graphic novel.

Amorsolo Illustrations at Lopez Museum

guys, if you have time . Pls check out the exhibited komiks done by our masters.

Ganito Pala sa Maynila, Fernando AmorsoloThe National Artist Fernando Amorsolo, while known more for his countryside scenes, was also an illustrator for novels and komiks. In fact, he provided the illustrations for the popular comic strip, “Ganito pala sa Maynila,” which satirized the social issues during the American of occupation of the Philippines, serialized in the Bagong Lipang Kalabaw magazine from 1922 to 1924.

Some of Amorsolo’s illustrations from 1909 to 1924 are showcased in “Tell-tale: The Artist as Storyteller, Amorsolo as Co-Author” at the Lopez Museum.

As an illustrator, Amorsolo had collaborated with early twentieth-century writers like Tagalog novelists Iñigo Regalado and Severino Reyes, editor Lope K. Santos, and writer-educator Camilo O. Osias.
